Origin: Native to Mexico and Central America, where it grows naturally as a large shrub in dry tropical areas.

Growth: Moderate growth. Indoors, it typically reaches 40 to 60 cm in height. Its dark green foliage beautifully complements its large red, pink, white, or cream bracts, depending on the variety. These colorful bracts are not true flowers, but modified leaves.

Flowers: Winter flowering. The true flowers, called cyathia, are small, yellowish, and located in the center of the colorful bracts. The plant is primarily cultivated for the beauty of these decorative bracts.

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Good light helps maintain the color of the bracts longer. Avoid direct, scorching sunlight and cold drafts.

Watering: Water moderately. Allow the surface of the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. The plant is sensitive to overwatering and low humidity, especially during flowering. Reduce watering once the plant enters dormancy after flowering.

Substrate: Use a well-draining potting mix for flowering plants, enriched with perlite or coconut fiber to prevent stagnant moisture.

Toxicity: Slightly toxic to humans and animals. Its milky sap can cause skin or digestive irritation if ingested.
