Violet Blue Fleur De Lis Mum

I never thought I’d be the kind of person to get excited about wall art, let alone a ceramic flower. But here I am, staring at this violet blue-colored creation like it holds the secrets of the universe. It’s about the size of my hand, which is convenient because I can cradle it and pretend I’m some sort of botanist-turned-art-critic. The flower is a fleur de lis mum, which sounds fancy enough to impress my sister, who once dated a mathematician. I imagine her nodding approvingly, “How avant-garde.” As if she knows what that means any more than I do.

I’ve placed it in my kitchen, right next to the spot where I usually stand to contemplate life’s great mysteries, like why I bought that juicer I never use. Now, instead of staring at a blank wall, I can gaze upon this ceramic masterpiece and ponder if it’s judging my cooking skills. The funny thing is, it’s not just kitchen wall decor. It’s officially wall art decor, which makes me feel like I’m part of some exclusive club. I can almost hear my mother’s voice: “Look at you, with your fancy wall art decor. La-di-da!” But I don’t care. This little lilac fractal flower has become my ceramic muse, inspiring me to greater heights of… well, something. Probably just more staring.
