Tomato ‘Glacier’

Tomato Glacier (Solanum lycopersicum) is an early, dwarf, determinate variety especially well suited to northern climates and short growing seasons. Its compact plant reaches approximately 60 to 80 cm (24 to 31 in) tall and performs well both in the garden and in containers. Highly productive despite its small size, it produces an abundance of round, red, juicy, flavorful cocktail tomatoes throughout the summer. Their balanced taste combines gentle sweetness with a pleasant touch of acidity, making them highly versatile. Grown as an annual in Canada, it matures quickly in only 55 to 60 days.

Tomato Glacier thrives in full sun in rich, fertile, well-drained soil with regular watering to maintain consistent production. Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost at a temperature of 20 to 25C (68 to 77F). After the last frost, transplant seedlings into the garden or containers, spacing plants 40 to 50 cm (16 to 20 in) apart. Thanks to its good tolerance to cool temperatures, it can sometimes be planted slightly earlier than many other tomato varieties when conditions permit. Mulch around the base to help conserve moisture and protect the roots.

In the garden, this compact tomato is perfect for small vegetable gardens, patio containers, northern growing conditions, and spaces where an early, reliable harvest is desired. It grows well alongside herbs, annual flowers, and seasonal vegetables that attract pollinators and bring more life to the garden.
