Rhombophyllum dolabriforme ‘Elkhorn Plant’

Embodying the rugged beauty of its native South African landscapes, Rhombophyllum dolabriforme, commonly known as the ‘Elkhorn Plant’, is a captivating succulent that demands attention. Its fleshy, green leaves are uniquely shaped, resembling the horns of an elk, and are arranged in a dense, compact rosette. The leaves have a distinctive, almost translucent quality, with a waxy coating that helps retain moisture, making this plant a champion of drought resistance.

Reaching up to 8 inches in height, the ‘Elkhorn Plant’ remains relatively small, making it an ideal choice for those looking to add a touch of exotic charm to their indoor spaces without sacrificing too much room. Its growth habit is upright and somewhat spreading, which allows it to create a lush, verdant display whether it’s planted in a container, rock garden, or as part of a mixed succulent arrangement.

But the ‘Elkhorn Plant’ isn’t just about its intriguing foliage. In the heart of summer, it surprises with an abundance of small, bright yellow flowers that emerge from the center of the rosette. These blooms add a cheerful splash of color to the plant’s overall appearance and attract pollinators to your garden. The flowers open up during the sunny hours of the day and close as the evening approaches, following the rhythm of the natural world.

Easy to care for and requiring minimal maintenance, Rhombophyllum dolabriforme ‘Elkhorn Plant’ is a wonderful choice for both seasoned succulent collectors and beginners alike. Its unique appearance and resilient nature make it a fascinating addition to any plant collection, promising to bring a piece of the wild South African landscapes into your home or garden.
