Opuntia consolea

Opuntia consolea, commonly known as the Roadkill Cactus, produces tall, flattened pads that grow vertically in a stacked, tree-like form. The pads are thin and elongated rather than round, giving the plant an unusual, almost two-dimensional silhouette when viewed from the side. Small spines and glochids dot the surface. It is a fast grower for a cactus and develops a genuinely architectural presence with age.

Origins
Native to the Caribbean, particularly Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, Opuntia consolea grows in dry, coastal scrubland and rocky hillsides in full sun. It can reach tree-like proportions in its native habitat.
