Indigofera sootepensis SEEDS

Indigofera sootepensis seeds grow into a Thai indigo a shrub native to the subtropical biome of northern Thailand, particularly associated with the mountains of Doi Suthep-Pui and the broader Chiang Mai highland zone. Described by Craib (William Grant Craib, 18821933, Scottish botanist who specialised in the flora of Thailand). The epithet sootepensis means ‘from Doi Suthep’ (the mountain above Chiang Mai, northern Thailand), indicating the type locality. Produces pink to pink-purple pea-shaped flowers in racemes typical of the genus. Nitrogen-fixing. A botanical collector’s species representing the rich montane flora of northern Thailand. Indigofera sootepensis Doi Suthep indigo is a collector’s species from the montane forests above Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, named for the sacred mountain of Doi Suthep by Scottish botanist Craib, who specialised in the Thai flora and documented many of the plants from this botanically rich highland zone in the early 20th century.
