Haworthia ‘Chocolate’

With thick, water-rich leaves that boast both deep coloration and near translucence, Haworthia ‘Chocolate more than earns its common name! The squat rosettes feature sharply out-turned leaves with a heavily textured surface complete with creamy hued striations extending away from the center of the plant. In dimmer lighting Chocolate sports a grayish green coloration, though bright light and cool (but not freezing) temperatures will cause the leaves to transition to a deep maroon tone, starting at the tips and working inward from there. In some instances, the leaves will become so dark as to appear almost black!

While its exotic appearance may suggest otherwise, Chocolate’ possesses the same easy care requires as any other Haworthia cultivar. While it can tolerate shady conditions, its richest coloration will be seen in bright, indirect light. As the leaves hold large stores of water for the plant to draw from, take care not to subject Enigma to overwatering. This can be accomplished by providing a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot, ensuring ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface, and following a thorough but infrequent watering routine.

During the winter months, be sure to shield Chocolates fleshy leaves from freezing temperatures, which could otherwise result in permanent damage to the plant.
