Graptopetalum paraguayense ‘Ghost Plant’

Enduring in popularity for well over a century, the spade-shaped leaves of Graptopetalum paraguayense Ghost Plant form loose rosettes, replete with extremely variable shades of icy blue, soft mauve, and olive green no two specimens will ever look exactly alike! Sharp points on each leaf lend the plant a star-like aesthetic, and a thick coating of powdery farina adds to its truly ghostly ambiance. Reaching about 6 inches in height and width, the rosettes of this Mexican native make for an exceptional addition to container arrangements or temperate rock gardens.

Despite its otherworldly appearance, Ghost Plant is actually quite simple to grow, and will flourish even for beginning succulent collectors given a few simple steps. Bright sunlight will bring out the best coloration and most compact growth form, though this variety can tolerate some shade albeit with a more muted color palette. As is the case with most succulents, avoiding overwatering is key, so be sure to follow the soak and dry method, in conjunction with a porous soil mixture within a well-draining pot.

Hardy only to Zone 10, it is critical to protect Ghost Plant from freezing temperatures. In exchange, you can expect this variety to produce copious offsets and send up stalks of star-shaped blooms during the summer growing season.
