Faucaria tuberculosa

Faucaria tuberculosa, commonly known as the warty tiger jaws, is one of the most characterful small succulents you can grow indoors. Plants form low, clumping rosettes of triangular leaves arranged in neat opposing pairs, each edged with soft white “teeth” that give the species its tiger-jaw nickname. What sets ‘tuberculosa’ apart is the pronounced warty, tuberculate bumps that decorate the upper leaf surface, giving the plant a rough, reptilian texture unlike almost anything else in cultivation. In autumn, surprisingly large golden-yellow daisy-like flowers open on sunny afternoons, rising directly from the centre of the rosette.

Origins

Faucaria tuberculosa is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows in gritty, quartz-rich soils among low shrubs and rocky outcrops.
