Eucalyptus deglupta seeds grow into the rainbow eucalyptus or Mindanao gum a large, fast-growing tropical tree native to the wet tropical biome of south-eastern Maluku (Indonesia), New Guinea (Papua New Guinea and West Papua) and the Philippine island of Mindanao. Extraordinarily, this is the only eucalyptus species with a natural range north of the equator the rest of the genus (700+ species) is confined to Australia and the islands immediately north. Its bark is its most spectacular character: the outer layer sheds continuously in thin strips, revealing an extraordinary succession of bright green, then blue, purple, orange and maroon inner bark layers that create a living, kaleidoscopic canvas that changes throughout the year.
