An award winner and reliable performer, ‘Luxuriant’ is everblooming, typically from late spring to early fall. It produces sprays of nodding, heart-shaped cherry-red flowers held above fern-like, deeply lobed, gray-green foliage on long, leafless stems. The blooms attract hummingbirds and make lovely cut flowers.
It has a mounding habit, growing 15 inches tall and wide, shown to best effect when massed or grouped; but its extensive rhizome systems also spread to establish colonies. It is quite cold hardy and, given adequate moisture, more sun and heat tolerant than most bleeding-heart varieties. It is a very nice edging plant but can also be grown in a container.
