This grey-blue cactus is also known as the Peruvian Apple Cactus, and featuresan irregularly undulating and folded pattern on the stem ribs, thanks to a genetic defect within the apical meristems from which the plants growth originates. This slow-growing cactus can eventually reach up to 15 feet tall at maturity, producing large white flowers which open only at night before making way for edible orange fruits that are often compared to dragon fruit.
Like many cacti, this variety is very drought tolerant, and thus should be watered thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. To further safeguard against rot, be sure to keep Peruvian Apple Cactus potted within a well-draining soil mix, in a location with ample airflow around the stems and soil surface. Plenty of bright sunlight will ensure the best possible growth, and impart the greatest chance of seeing blooms during the summer months.
