Caladium Miss Muffet (Caladium hybrid)

Caladiums add brightly colored, exotic-looking foliage to the summer garden. Weve selected two varieties that perform well in either full sun or partial shade. Miss Muffett is considered a dwarf caladium reaching 12-18 tall. The lime green leaves are speckled with purplish-red spots and a red heart. Its a full, vigorous grower and a uniform plant that can be grown in full sun or partial shade. Leaves reach about 7 across. These caladiums are preplanted, well rooted tubers with leaf spikes initiated. Plant them directly in the garden or in a large 6-8 pot. Cover the tuber with only 2 inches of soil. Plant when ground temperatures are warm since caladiums dont like temperatures below 55F. Dense plantings of one pot per square foot create a profusion of color in the garden. In mid-summer floral spikes emerge and last 4-5 days. In the fall, dig up the bulbs and overwinter inside for gardeners in northern zones, or grow as an annual. Caladiums require little to no fertilizer.
