Repeat the collection to fill in larger spaces and grow more pollinator habitat. In the winter, queen bumblebees will burrow into bare soil to hibernate; in spring and summer, shell build a nest for the next generation of her bumblebee colony typically in an undisturbed cavity area such as a stone wall or compost pile. To best support bumblebees and other pollinators, leave the leaves and spent flower stalks in your gardens to provide overwintering habitat, and avoid digging or clearing leaf litter until pollinators wake up, when soil temperature warms to over 55F in spring.
