Begonia diadema is native to the tropical regions of Borneo. This species is distinguished by its delicate green leaves adorned with elongated white blotches, creating a striking contrast. The leaves are smooth, shiny, and typically erect, contributing to the plant’s distinctive appearance. While it is primarily grown for its ornamental foliage, Begonia diadema may occasionally produce small, inconspicuous flowers.

Begonia diadema originates from the tropical rainforests of Borneo, where it thrives in the humid, shaded understory.

Water:
Maintain consistently moist soil for Begonia diadema, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot; therefore, ensure the pot has adequate drainage to prevent waterlogging.

Light:
Provide bright, indirect light to mimic the plant’s natural habitat. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may hinder growth. A location near an east or north-facing window is ideal.

Humidity:
Begonia diadema prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 50% and 60%. In the UK, indoor environments often have lower humidity, especially during winter months. To increase humidity, consider using a humidifier, placing the plant on a tray of moist pebbles, or regularly misting the leaves.

Temperature:
This species thrives in temperatures between 18C and 24C. It is sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 15C, which can cause stress and inhibit growth. Maintain a stable indoor temperature within this range to support healthy development.
