Sowing Indoors
Sow seeds in individual 9cm (3 in) pots filled with seed compost. Push these large seeds on their side into the compost to a depth of 1cm (1/2 in). Place in a warm environment 20-25C (70-75F). As seedlings develop grow on in cooler, light conditions but avoid direct sunlight.
Planting on indoors
Transplant young plants to grow bags, pots or a border in the greenhouse and providing string or cane supports to train stems up.
Planting on outdoors
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for two to three weeks before planting out to permanent outdoor planting positions. Space plants 30cm (12in) apart.
If growing outdoors provide a protected shelter like a mini polytunnel as this variety appreciates a warm environment.
Harvests
Regular picking promotes further growth. Water well and feed with a high-potash fertiliser when flowers appear to encourage flower and fruiting.
