Canby’s Mountain Lover (Paxistima)

Canbys Mountain Lover (Paxistima canbyi) Canbys Mountain Lover (also known commonly as Cliff Green) is an outstanding foot tall shrublet that provides attractive glossy evergreen foliage in beds under trees and other shady spots in the landscape. While it’s a rare native from the Appalachian Mountains, the fact that it grows in alkaline, limestone soils make it a good choice for the high pH soils of the western US as well. Plant in the spring to get it established before winter. A tidy, low-spreading groundcover, it doesn’t need any shearing to keep it looking good. It is a valuable plant to create habitat for attracting beneficial insects.
